Images & Pilgrimages: Post #2

The Turners write that "pilgrimage provides a carefully structured, highly valued route to a liminal world where the ideal is felt to be real, where the tainted social persona may be cleansed and renewed." While reflecting what I believe the role of pilgrimages are in a Christian's life. I believe that pilgrimages can act as a discipline in one's life. Removing one's self from their everyday life may cleanse and renew them. Before I hiked part of the AT, I heard stories from other Christian hikers and how they had spiritual experiences on the trail. When I went out I was expecting to be amazed by some crazy spiritual experience, but I was left disappointed with that expectation. On the other hand, I did recognize hiking to be a good spiritual discipline that helped me focus on praying to God and helped me rely on his strength to get me through.
