The Virgin Mary in Pilgrimage (Image in Pilgrimage in Christian Culture 2)

In one of the final chapters of Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture the authors discuss how in catholic's in pilgrimage carry remembrance of the Virgin Mary on pilgrimage more so than any other sort of religious pilgrims would.  When one looks at the context of catholicism and their beliefs on the Virgin Mary it makes a lot of sense.  The Virgin Mary is held in far higher esteem in Catholicism than in Protestant Theology.  When one looks at the Christian pilgrimage of a protestant it would be far less likely to see some sort of shrine or rosary of the Virgin Mary while it would be far more common when observing Catholic Pilgrimage.
