A Transaction Between Worlds - Choice

December 9 2017
All religions have an element of selfishness. For many religions, sacrifices are made in this life in return for a better life in the next. Whether that is through reincarnation, reuniting with the Holy, or getting the chance to go to heaven, all religions preach this payoff. In context, this seems natural and it is a way to repay someone for their hard work. Some example of this is include people who donate possessions to the less fortunate or spend their time working with organizations to better the lives of others.
What is troubling is the fact that people’s intentions may not be pure. Church’s preach selflessness through service and humbling themselves for God. Although they do this, are they doing it for the right reasons? Do they truly believe they are inferior and seeking forgiveness or are they just doing it to get what it owed to them?

Using the example from earlier, a woman may donate some of her clothes to a local shelter. In her head, is she doing it because she is sympathetic towards the less fortunate or does she see it as a chore God gave her? Is she thinking about her life now which she is investing in or the next life where her investment shows value?
