Chosen Topic- Practice
I am a member of the CNU Women’s Lacrosse Team and during our fall season we are only allowed 12 practices with our coaches. The rest is left up to our captains to plan times to play pick-up as well as lift and condition with the weight training staff. Each practice is very well thought out by our coaches so that we can maximise the amount of skills we are learning in such a short amount of time before we have our fall play day. I have noticed this semester, more than most, that our team struggles greatly with being present. Being a student athlete can be very tough when you are trying to prioritize school over lacrosse but you also want to be the best you can be for the sake of the team. A lot of girls struggle with this when it comes to being present on the field and not letting outside factors impact your play. Although this is a tough thing to do, it is super important for a team to all be on the same page during practice time. When you step onto the field you are expecting those around you to be working just as hard as you are during a drill. It can really mess with the cohesion of play if people aren’t. It has been a semester of growth for our team learning how to be present at practices and find a balance of how to all be on the same page during practice time.
