Experience in Nature 2: Sunset by the lake
Experience in Nature 2: Sunset by the lake
November 25, 2017
I’m sitting in a familiar spot, perched, watching birds circle the lack bellow
I wonder what they’re doing
Are they trying to spot fish to catch?
Chasing their reflections?
Celebrating the setting of the sun with a dance?
While the first option is likely true, I’d like to believe the latter two options.
I came here to watch the sunset, but the sun is actually out of sight
And I can feel it as the temperature is growing colder
It’s just after the sun is gone that I begin to feel a rise of passion inside
I feel passionate about this part of the sky’s progression, because I feel it is so taken for granted.
The sky glows a soft orange, yellow, and blue.
The moon is already bright against the mild sky
There are ripples across the water and little fish are leaping above the surface to get their last glance of daylight
A duck dives under the water and slides to the surface again, floating as if nothing ever happened. I know its’ secret.
Its’ friends, two other ducks, follow too far behind
They’re splashing and swimming side-by-side and they look as if they are racing each other.
As the sky continues to darken,
I can’t help but wonder how many more miles they will swim tonight.
The world is so busy and alive. So much is occurring at once. As I ponder this, it seems preposterous that I have ever been inclined to feel that somehow everything is about me.
