Landscapes of The Sacred #2: Lost Art of Religion
As I continued to read, I stumbled upon the quote, “In this world come of age in the twentieth century, half of us have abandoned all hope of awed wonder in the world, while the other half tried frantically to rediscover a lost magic". (26) This quote has caused me to identify different problems that the society might have involved me in. In our society, individuals seem to be one extreme or the other. There tends to be this contentment and satisfaction with staying in our safe cushy apartments and living sheltered lives. I feel as if humanity as a whole has almost lost our sense of wonder in the world and our true understanding of who God is. On the other hand, there are people that search so hard to find meaning in spirituality and magic practices, but these people are almost outliers in our modern, secular society. There seems to be no in between. Sacred journeys foster that wonder and excitement that we have become a lost art to time in our society.
