Landscapes of the Sacred #2: Seeking God's presence

"We cannot demand God's presence. He will show up in your unexpected moments." This particular quote taken from Landscapes of the Sacred reminds me of Aslan from Narnia. Throughout the series Aslan is seen as both gentle, powerful and untamed. Aslan's character is often related to as a representation of God and his both gentle but untamed nature. We cannot demand for God to show up where we want him to show up. He will move where he wants to move and do what he sees right to do. Often times I have seen this evident in my own walk with God. It has often led me to fear expectation because often times what I expect is never what comes to be. I can expect God to act but not in the ways that I will usually expect. It shows just how limited my sight can be when expecting God to act in the ways I want him to. "God chooses to reveal Himself only where He wills," this statement is very evident of the free being and nature of God. Often times there is a temptation to see God as like a genie in a bottle, one to just carry out the wishes of the human heart. But the reality of God is that he freely chooses to do what is best.
