Landscapes of the Sacred: The Mountain that was God

My initial thought after reading the chapter on Mythic Landscapes was "wow, now I really want to go to experience Mount Rainier." So, while I cannot attest to the powerful landscape and presence of Mount Rainier, I can attest to the other mountains that I have seen and for the most part, they have been captivating. The Native American stories shrouding Mount Rainier intensify its sacredness. Since nobody is allowed to actually climb Mount Rainier without facing possible foretold death, its reputation is even greater. The mountain also penetrates the clouds, making it seem even more God-like. The stories surrounding it make it a sacred place. The Native Americans near the mountain revere it as holy and relay how powerful it is to anybody willing to ask. Those that inquire about climbing the mountain are forewarned that they will die trying to do so.
