Outside Reading #1
Jeremiah 29:13
"you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart."
I realized that in our discussion of the axioms of sacred place, I misinterpreted them as a reason to devote no effort to experiencing God, but rather to expect Him to grant me with some profound experience. This, however, is a lazy manner of approaching my relationship with God. Although I cannot choose how or when He will reveal Himself to me, experience of the sacred still requires a certain posture of the heart. I had created an I-it relationship with God, simply expecting Him to give me what I wanted without devoting myself to Him. Through focus on God and decentering of self, however, I open myself for experience.
