What Makes Something Sacred? A recent thought that I can’t seem to get out of my mind is what exactly makes something sacred. Is it because someone says it is sacred? Is it because something happened in that particular place? Is it because of historical relevance? What is sacred to one person, could mean absolutely nothing to the next, and vice versa. If something is sacred to one person and not to the next, then is that item or place actually sacred? Or does it only have a special spot in the initial person’s heart? A house that someone lived in for 50 years might mean the world to that person, but it probably means nothing to someone on the other side of the world. A hut in Madagascar probably means nothing to a Stock Broker in New York City. Does that mean that the hut is not special? Is the ability of being sacred only manifested in one’s mind, or it is a universal claim when calling something sacred?
