Phenomenology of Prayer page 15

Prayer is generally understood as a personal connection between the person praying and God. However, true prayer is when the person praying stops focusing on themselves and starts focusing on God. In a culture that is very self centered, this is viewed as difficult, as people tend to think about themselves all the time. However, once the burden of truly taking oneself out of the proverbial spotlight, that is when the true prayer begins.
