Topic of Choosing: Film
There's been plenty of discourse surrounding the media of film--in the case of certain religious groups a word of caution has been expressed on the moral relativism of Hollywood. In my studies of both film and rhetoric, I've come to view film with a more charitable outlook, seeing the net good that it can contribute to society by reflecting the same raw human emotion that the viewer might relate to.
On a personal note, film has been my main method of catharsis. It's helped me through hard times in my life, and encouraged introspection on my values, convictions, and beliefs. It's always perplexed me why I find so much profundity in the most obscure or seemingly trivial of movies. Why do I cry during comedy films and remain unfazed by certain dramas? I think it almost alludes to the axioms of sacred place. The idea of sacred place as being tread upon without being entered could in some way be loosely translated to why some people are moved by certain moments of film while others are not.
